Dear Member/ Client
RE: Queensland Taxi Subsidy Scheme cut
The Spinal Injuries Association is writing to all members and clients to alert them to changes to the Taxi Subsidy Scheme announced in the 2012-13 Queensland budget. The Minister for Transport and Main Roads, the Honourable Scott Emerson said in a Ministerial Media Statement, “Discounted taxi trips taken under the taxi subsidy scheme will be capped at $400 per person per year to ensure it continues to provide an accessible form of transport for those most in need. The cap will cover the travel needs of more than 80 per cent of users.”
The Association believes the annual cap on the Taxi Subsidy Scheme to come into effect 1 July 2013 will create hardship for members and clients. The Association’s vision is ‘that people with a spinal cord injury are able to live in an equitable, inclusive, integrated community, independently able to access every aspect of and contribute to the fabric of their region.’ The Association believes the cap will impact significantly on people’s ability to access employment, attend medical appointments, engage in the local community and meet basic daily living needs such as shopping.
The Spinal Injuries Association will be lobbying the State Government regarding the cut to the Taxi Subsidy Scheme and the Government’s view that the cap will only impact 20% of people who use the scheme. To ensure your views are represented correctly, we ask that you answer the questions on the following attached PDF and return the information to the Association as soon as you are able.
If you have any questions or concerns you are invited to contact the Association’s Brisbane office for assistance.
Yours sincerely
