TrailRider
Exploring the environment can be empowering to those with limited mobility. All terrain wheelchairs can go off road but the fun and adventure often ends at a mountain of steps, large rocks, or where the path narrows into one single line foot track. The Black Diamond TrailRider can get you beyond these obstacles.
This cross between rickshaw and wheelbarrow was the brainchild of quadriplegic Vancouver Mayor, Sam Sullivan.

Instead of just watching from a viewing platform you get to be within the park itself.

The TrailRider sports a single pneumatic tyre with disc brake, behind seat storage, multiple soft coated grab handles, and 17″ wide padded seat. Constructed of lightweight aluminium tube and nylon mesh slings it can endure heavy rain or a good hosing down.
You may not need $7500.00 to buy one however. Many national parks in Canada, USA, and Australia offer TrailRider’s for free or at a small hire charge. Some in Australia can even provide you with the required man power for free.
Parks Victoria has developed a ‘Sherpa Volunteer program to assist you to explore parks in All Terrain TrailRider wheelchairs. A Volunteer Sherpa is a trained operator to push and pull the TrailRider chair. Volunteer Sherpas are available at both the Dandenong Ranges and Grampians National Parks.

The TrailRider weighs 23 kg, and folds down to a size of 172 cm x 82 cm x 61 cm for transport or storage. Maximum capacity rider weight is 108 kg (240 pounds).
