Basically, there are 2 types of TBI’s, CLOSED AND PENETRATING with SEVERE TBI’s accompaning the latter. Sports related injuries are the highest cause of TBI’s and MOST of them fall in the CLOSED category. If treated in a timely fashion, a full recovery is expected. SEVERE TBI’s may experience problems with thinking, language and emotion. Speech, hearing and memory loss are freguently effected. TBI’s, in general, MAY increase the chances of epilepsy and A.L.S. Treatment options are expensive> The CDC estimates 7.5 billion has been spent on care and detection.
