Disabled ‘sex pest’ stalks city From: Sunday Mail (SA) January 26, 2008 11:30PM Source: The Advertiser
A WHEELCHAIR-bound pest who says he is conducting a health survey and tries to touch women’s breasts is stalking women in the Adelaide CBD.
The man – who claims to be a naturopath – is also the subject of an email warning that has spread throughout the city, written by one of his victims.
Police have spoken to the serial nuisance but say they cannot take action until someone makes a formal complaint.
“He goes up to females and asks if he can have five minutes of your time to do a survey in regards to your heart,” the woman said in her email.
“He then eventually asks if he can put his hand on your chest to feel your heart beat.
“Please don’t even stop for this man. He is a serial pest.”
When approached by the Sunday Mail this week, the man admitted he had been spoken to by police but said he was only trying to “help people”.
The man produced an enrolment form for the SA College of Natural Medicine.
“I’m genuinely trying to help people,” he said.
“I really didn’t mean to offend anybody.”
The author of the email, who did not want to be named publicly, told the Sunday Mail she was followed by the stalker recently as she walked to her office.
She said she noticed the man following her along Pirie St and tried to escape him by fleeing into the lift of her office building.
But the man directed his wheelchair, attempting to get into the lift with her.
“After I started pressing the close button and the doors were hitting his chair he slowly reversed,” she said.
“I’ve had heaps of personal emails from other women who say they’ve seen the guy and have been harassed by him.
“One woman told me she’s developed an obsessive compulsive disorder from the stress he has caused her.”
Office worker Tamara, another victim who responded to the woman’s email, said she had heard from many other women who had been stopped by the man.
“I was walking near City Cross and this guy in a wheelchair stopped in front of me and asked me to do a survey,” she said.
“I asked what it was about and he said it was a coughing and breathing survey.
“He said he needed me to do some breathing for him and I said, `No, I’m sorry, I have to go’.”
Tamara said she tried to walk away but the man moved his wheelchair to block her path before asking for her telephone number.
“I said `No’ and went to walk off but he kept following me and getting in front of me.
“It really scared me.”
A police spokesman said they were aware of the man but had not received an official complaint.
“Police know who he is and they have spoken to him, and they are speaking to other agencies involved in his welfare,” the warning email said.
“If we can get somebody to actually put in a police report we will be able to take some action.”
The spokesman said police had also received a copy of the email warning.
The email also said: “We would like to hear from any previous victims, so if they could contact police on 131 444 or go into a police station, a report can be made and police can follow this matter up.”
It really is unfortunate these sort of idiots only give creedence to the perverted oversexed stereotype wheelchair users face.
