Only Microsoft ME and XP support Windows Movie Maker: The default location is C:Program FilesMovie MakerMoviemk.exe double click the exe to open Movie Maker.
Upgrade: First you might like to update to the latest version: Microsoft Movie Maker 2.1
To Save Your Movie as a WMV or AVI: You can’t convert or play a MSWMM file itself. It is just the container file. You must open the MSWMM file with Windows Movie Maker THEN you can save as a WMV or AVI file.
1a. If you already have a MSWMM file Goto: Start> All Programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Windows Movie Maker File> Open Project> Locate the WSWMM file> and Open.
1b. If you are making a new movie Goto: File> New Project. File> Import into Collections> locate and select your movie MPG or whatever format your movie file is in.
2. Now put your imported clips onto the Storyboard. Goto: View> Storyboard. Drag the clip/s from the Collections panel onto the Storyboard line. Test if you wish then Goto: File> Save Movie File> My Computer> Enter a movie name & folder to save to. Tick ‘Other settings’> Any option you chose from the drop box will save as a WMV except for “DV-AVI (PAL)” that will save as AVI.
3. Once You Save As WMV or AVI as Above You Can Continue:
MPG: Only ME and XP support Windows Movie Maker. If you don’t have ME or XP ask someone who does to take your MSWMM – save as a WMV – and return. THEN, You can use any one of the hundreds of free programs available to convert the wmv to avi, mpg, asf, divx, dvd, or whatever format you want: A list of shareware WMV to MPG converters
DVD: You can burn the WMV AVI or MPEG (MPG) movie file onto your DVD disc or a CD-Rom disc. Most newer DVD players will support and play those formats as well as JPG images as a slideshow. To play on your computer a CD drive can’t burn or play a DVD disc. A DVD drive will burn/play both DVD and CD disc’s though.
Flash SWF: If you need your movie in Flash SWF format Macromedia Flash can import WMV AVI MPG and many other formats. So just use Windows Movie Maker and save as a WMV movie file as explained above. Open Flash and Goto: File> Import> locate your WMV and import it. Then you can save as SWF.
WMV: Windows Media Video
MSWMM: MicroSoft Windows Movie Maker
